What Is Gothic Jewelry?

I can see it in your face right now. The minute you think of Gothic jewelry you envision black clothing, white faces, and unusual jewelry. You might even think of Frankenstein, Morticia from the Addams family, Vampires or the Walking Dead. In other words you envision the dark side. Well when it comes to gothic jewelry you really couldn't be further from the truth.

Gothic jewelry is the type of jewelry that is deep, mysterious, yet elegant and intriguing. Dark yes, from the dark side not really. Now grant it, Gothic jewelry is not for the weak of heart, not for the meek and mild. It is however a great choice for anyone who wants to stand out in the crowd, for anyone that like bold jewelry and for anyone that loves to see the jewelry become a topic of conversation.

A quick search on the internet will reveal many sites selling gothic jewelry. Some stores even specialize in gothic jewelry. What you will also find is a terrific mix of the known and the unknown. Here you will find such items as pentacles, pendants, the gothic cross, spiders and snakes, spikes and leather, body jewelry and more!

The question then becomes are you up for it? Can you take a walk on the darker side but not see it as such? Can you envision the gothic jewelry on your body? Does it talk to you intrigue you? Then you should try it!

Gothic jewelry is sometimes referred to as pagan jewelry. They are often made from the same material types, mainly gold, sterling silver, and pewter. They may be plain or encrusted with beautiful jewels, faux or real depending on the price you pay.

Many of the gothic designs found on gothic jewelry have their roots in esoteric sources such as the symbols of ancient Egypt or from Celtic rituals. Some pieces are timeless icons depicting the eerie and unknown. Coffin rings, gaudy crosses with attached animal figures, howling wolves. All symbolic of something in some past culture.

One of the most popular gothic jewelry items is the slave bracelet also called the maille bracelet. They look like pieces of woven metal. They are different than a traditional bracelet because they cover almost the entire hand and are covered with intricate patterns woven into the metal.

Chokers and bib necklaces are also very popular. Often made of woven metal or leather, some may have spikes, others will be adorned with symbols from the past. These necklaces are usually large and noticeable and are definitely going to grab attention.

Poison rings are also a real hit. These rings have a small compartment in which the wearer can store a small amount of fine powder. In ancient times the wearer of these rings would carry a small amount of poison that would cause instant death if the need arose. Thus there name poison ring. Today they are more decorative than functional, however the characters and detailing on these rings is both intricate and mystical. A very cool piece if you are looking for something different.

Contrary to popular belief gothic jewelry is very easy to wear. It easily dresses up or down depending on your outing and your mood. It's easily available and always intriguing. Because of the arcane symbols and figures it always adds an element of mystery to your finished look.

Gothic jewelry may be dark but it certainly is not dreary. It may be ornate but certainly not gaudy. What gothic jewelry is a mystical mix of the past in the present that makes a unique fashion statement!
